Mud Australia has been creating elegant and timeless porcelain homewares since its founding in 1994 by Shelley Simpson. From its studio in Sydney, the brand handmakes every piece, offering a collection that balances a minimalist aesthetic with everyday functionality. Their work is designed to be as suitable for toast and butter as it is for a fine dining meal.

The production process is meticulous. Using porcelain clay sourced directly from Limoges, France, each of the 19 signature color pigments is tinted into the clay body itself. This provides a unique depth of color. A clear glaze is applied only to the interior, leaving the exterior with a vitrified, stone-like surface that becomes smoother with use.

The company operates as a proudly climate-neutral business, a commitment they made official in 2020. Beyond environmental goals, Mud Australia also invests in the creative community by funding the annual Shelley Simpson Ceramics Prize, which supports emerging artists in the field.
