Founded by Thomas and Mary Moser in 1972, Thos. Moser began in New Gloucester, Maine, with a mission to restore the art of making furniture well. The company builds pieces that celebrate the natural beauty of wood. They are known for simple, unadorned, and graceful lines.
The brand's designs are rooted in the American Shaker tradition, emphasizing function and visible joinery over embellishment. Today, around 70 craftspeople work in the company's 90,000-square-foot workshop in Auburn, Maine. Each piece of furniture is built from start to finish by a single artisan and bears their signature upon completion.
Thos. Moser uses sustainably sourced North American hardwoods, including black cherry from the Allegany Plateau and walnut from the Missouri River banks. This commitment to materials is part of their goal to create furniture with a long, useful life. The company continues to rely on traditional joinery and individual workmanship.
