Based in New York's Hudson Valley, Sawkille Co. creates handcrafted furniture that reinterprets traditional American design for modern living. Founded by Jonah Meyer and Tara De Lisio, the company operates from its workshop in Kingston, drawing inspiration from historical forms like Shaker benches and Windsor chairs. Each piece reflects a contemporary refinement of these classic styles.
All furniture is built in-house using sustainably forested wood, much of it sourced from the surrounding region. The workshop operates on a no-waste principle. Leftover sawdust is given to a local potter to fuel firings, and unused tree stumps are upcycled into new furnishings. Finishes are often simple, like hand-rubbed beeswax or Danish oil, highlighting the natural material.
The company's design approach is driven by co-founder Jonah Meyer's background in fine art and sculpture. His early explorations with organic shapes have evolved into the distinct, clean-lined vocabulary of Sawkille's seating and case goods. This creative vision, combined with Tara DeLisio's entrepreneurial direction, defines the brand's focus on human effort and thoughtful design.
